"Rural Autumn Pleasure" 8" x 16" oil on Location

Here I am Painting on location, (Painting from life) on this Rural Road near my former Hometown of Canon City. I've enjoyed this scene multiple times and have successfully painted it from different times of the year.

Born and raised in Southern Colorado, Tom Lockhart Grew up loving the outdoors.   Taking his first art lesson at the age of 9, all he wanted to do was paint dinosaurs and volcanoes.    Tom later became interested in art through John Gnagy, on TV and later took art classes in school.  Eventually, he moved on into other interests, like playing guitar & singing, he won a Music Scholarship to the College of Emporia Emporia, KS only to be redirected by a professor at the College to try art.    After a very interesting and varied education in the College Fine Arts Program, he graduated with a BFA from ESU Emporia State University and returned to his hometown in Monte Visa, CO where he successfully ran his families retail furniture business until another life changing moment. He met the late Ray Vinella  from Taos, NM and also Bill Moyers, both came to judge a local art show (at his families' furniture Store).  The local art group Alpine Artists Association was thrilled to have these artists judge their annual Event.  Tom later became friends with these artists and was eventually introduced to other artists and venues along with some prominent galleries in the Southwest.  After studying with Ray and other artists such as Lowell Ellsworth Smith, Ted Goerchner, Irvine Shapiro & Wayne Wolfe, Tom began to grow as a representational Artist and entered National Shows/Exhibitions and Plein-Air Events.

He later became a Signature Member of the (RMPAP) Rocky Mtn Plein-Air Painters 2000, (NWR) Northwestern Rendezvous Artist 2004, (OPA) Oil, Painters of America 2003, as well as Associate Member of (CWS) Colorado Watercolor Society, (PPWCS) Pikes Peak Watercolor Society & (NOAPS) National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society. He Received the Award of Merit at the 2018 NOAPS National On-Line Exhibition.  Tom became an award-winning artist in Several National and Regional Events.  He was Accepted into the National Arts for the Parks, 1993,94,95,2004 and the top 100 Mini Arts for the Parks.  Most Notably:  Silver Medal Winner Region III for both 1994 and 2004 National Arts for the Parks.
